The
Book of Allah containing His Words revealed to the Trusted One on the
Earth, Muhammad (SAW), through the medium of the Trusted One in the Heaven,
Jibraa`eel (AS). It was revealed piecemeal to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW)
over a period of twenty-three years and some months. Allah says,
"We
have rehearsed it to you gradually in well-arranged stages." [al-Furqaan
(25):32] The
first revelation which the Messenger of Allah (SAW) received was, "Read
in the name of your Lord Who created. Created man from a clot (of coagulated
blood). Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous." [al-`Alaq (96):1-3] The
last verse to be revealed after which no further verses containing new
rules and regulations were revealed was, "This
day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you
and have chosen for you Islaam as your religion." [al-Maa`idah (5):4] The
last verse to be revealed was, "And
fear the Day when you shall be brought back to Allah. Then every soul
shall be paid what it earned and none shall be dealt with unjustly."
[al-Baqarah (2):281]
